I used to love Twitter. It was a little like my favourite pub (The Alma, Wandsworth Town).

A terrific mix of people, views, gossip, news, laughter and banter. Of course, there were the idiots, but they were largely left alone, pushed into the corner and ignored.

The Alma has, of course, changed. It’s more gastropub now, and the old crowd have grown up and moved on. Twitter too has changed. Now X, it is more like the dodgy boozer with sticky carpets and with people that, well, let’s just say you wouldn’t want to introduce them to your parents.

It means that I now rarely use X. I find it a cesspit of abhorrent views and content. There are still, however, corners of X that remind me of what it used to be, little rays of sunshine that try and break through the increasingly grubby windows of what was a just brilliant platform.
