Icarus is sent on a management course.
The slightly disconcerting memo landed on a Monday morning. As part of the firm’s ‘continuous learnings programme’, it said I was to be sent on a management course. (Notice that ‘s’ on the end of learning, by the way – just to ensure I start the week with a grimace.)
The memo was from one of Rosemary’s underlings, and it was slightly disconcerting because the firm’s approach to nurturing talent has been generally of the sink-or-swim variety. I’ve managed my department for a long time now without any suggestion that I should be told how to do it.
