One in three marketing leaders in the UK holds a Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification.
Are you one of them, asks James Lumley.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is probably the most well-known provider of on-the-job marketing qualifications in the UK. Through affiliated study centres it runs scores of marketing and BD courses and is most famous for its flagship Certificates in Marketing.

Its baseline certificate is confusingly known as ‘Level 3’ and is equivalent to a GCSE in marketing. Level 4 is the same as an A-Level. There is no level five. Level 6 is equivalent to a degree and Level 7 is equivalent to a postgraduate degree. Anybody can do Level 3, but after that candidates must demonstrate experience. Level 7 candidates, for example, must have at least three years’ experience working as senior managers in marketing.
