How do marketers build a network when nobody wants to go to networking events, asks Susanne Pugsley?

The generation gap is never more apparent when at marketing network events. Gen Xers, it seems, love to party at networking events and are never happier than drinking a warm glass of wine in a law firm reception area. Millennials, on the other hand, only want to do Bikram yoga or walk their dog and wouldn’t stay late for an event after work for anyone. Gen Z want to build a network and be promoted fast but couldn’t possibly speak to somebody in real life or even on the phone!

Or so the stereotypes and socials would want us to believe. Whilst many Gen Xers and Baby Boomers might think this true, and there are nuances in attitudes towards networking, it is fair to say that attendance at networking events in the professional services sector has certainly dropped off since Covid.
