BDB Pitmans delivered a multi-channel thought leadership campaign on the introduction of the Biodiversity Net Gain regime. Alexa Downing shares details of its strategy and execution.
BDB Pitmans has long been considered one of the UK’s leading infrastructure advisory firms due to the cohesion between its planning and infrastructure teams. With its Development Consent Order (DCO) expertise, the team provides legal guidance to councils and local and national government bodies acting on some of the country’s largest and most significant infrastructure projects.
Although there can’t be many who aren’t aware of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), these new regulations mandate significant changes to the planning system, requiring developers to achieve a 10% increase in biodiversity compared to pre-development levels. With large developments required to comply from February 2024 and small developments from April 2024, it is intended that BNG will not only benefit the country at a local level but also contribute to mitigating climate change in the UK.
